4 Healthy Ways To Tackle A Bad Day
We all have bad days. That makes us human, right? Yet, somehow it still comes to a shock to me when I have a bad day. I feel this immense guilt for having a bad day. Why should I be having a bad day? Life is so precious. I used to spend so much time trying to resist feeling badly on bad days. I would do everything to numb out those feelings and escape them. This only led to more internal resentment. Here are four ways that I have learned to healthily tackle my bad days: Reach Out
I know when I'm having a bad day, I like to isolate myself. However, this usually leads to more self-destructive thought patterns and behaviors. It's so important to reach out to someone who can offer some sort of support and a rational perspective on what you're feeling badly about. When we're having a bad day, we're typically in an emotional and irrational space. Don't be afraid to ask for help. There is always a better way out of the downward spiral. Also, you'll learn over time who gives the best pep-talks!
I have learned that the best thing you can do when you're having a bad day is to be extra kind to yourself. What can you do for yourself that is an act of self-love? Can you make yourself a hot cup of your favorite tea and read an empowering book? Can you pamper yourself? I like to go for walks to the park. I just sit there and allow myself to be in my feelings without pushing them away. The feelings that come on a bad day will always pass. Nothing is permanent. Trust that they will subside upon acceptance.
When You're Feeling Helpless, Help Someone
Whenever I am feeling helpless, I quickly pick up the phone to let someone know how grateful I am for them. I offer kind words and know that no matter what, this has a transformational power to lift my mood. I also like to commit random acts of kindness. It makes me feel better instantly. I feel like I've contributed to the greater good and it takes the focus off my own problems. If I can remember that I helped even 1 person in my day, I fulfilled my life purpose. What can you do to help someone on a bad day?
Look to Gratitude
Whenever you're feeling badly, start listing all the things you are grateful for out loud. It's a great way to see the big picture of your life. When you're having a bad day, it seems like the worst thing in the world. However, when you list 10+ things you're grateful for, you will learn how to see the big picture of your life rather than getting caught up in the nooks and crannies of your day bad.Next time you're having a bad day, be extra gentle and loving with yourself. We all have bad days. I promise that it'll get better. Be patient with yourself. It's a bad day, not a bad life!
