The SPIRE Story
I caught myself referencing life as a second semester senior last week. It doesn’t seem like it was too long ago that the exact same label was used in regards to high school. That time was very much like right now. The end of a chapter. The start of a new one. The same can be said for SPIRE. I started SPIRE as a senior, and now, four years later, I feel as if I am right back where I started. The only difference is that this time around, I feel different. These last four years have had many iterations, both for myself and the brand. What has stayed the same, though, is that the brand always felt like a reflection of my soul, and that is what has guided me, especially in moments when we were in unknown territory.
Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to meet and work with powerhouse young women who would make anyone excited for what this generation will do for our world. I’m lucky that as I write this, I’m sitting across from two teammates who have both taught me what it means to be both a leader and a team player. And I think we–whether a community or team member–have all grown thanks to what everyone brought to the S&C table.
While a lot has transformed in the past few years, who we are and what we believe has never veered off course. I like to think that comes in great thanks to the intention behind Spire & Co: to create a sanctuary where young women can discover their truth, harness their power, and create a life they want. For myself, that intention comes from the initial goal that started all of this, which was simply to make sure my sister knew I had her back in high school, even when I couldn’t physically be there.
That story holds a great deal of meaning to me. When we chose the name that would transition Smart Girls Group into its new chapter, my sister was the first person I called. When we are deciding on a new column, I’m always thinking in terms of the Sophies and if we are serving their needs. It’s a story that has guided every new chapter Spire & Co has taken, and in a lot of ways has given us an entrepreneurship cheat sheet.
So when we wanted to do our first “Our Story” video for Spire, there was no one better to create it than my sister. While this is only a short blip into SPIRE, it is a fantastic visual representation of that story and the intention that drives our every move.
