4 Healthy Summer Smoothies To Beat The Heat

Summertime is in full swing and beating the heat during these next few months can seem like a sport. Smoothies are a healthy and delicious way to cool off, and whether you are basking in the sun at the beach or relaxing at home, these four recipes for summer smoothies are sure to impress and, most importantly, help you beat the heat once and for all.

Going Green

Green Summer Smoothies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of ice
  • 1 cup of kale
  • 1 mango
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

Add all ingredients into your blender and blend until silky and smooth. If your smoothie is not blended to desired consistency, simply add a few more splashes of coconut milk and keep blending. This summer smoothie combines incredible health benefits from the kale such as 3 grams of protein and 2.5 grams of fiber with sweetness from the mango, honey, and coconut milk. This is one of my favorite ways to get in greens because frankly, I think plain kale tastes terrible. Once the kale is blended with sweet components, the bitterness is completely transformed into a delightful, nutritious treat.

Sights of Summer

Pineapple Summer Smoothies

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of pineapple
  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 cup of strawberries
  • 3/4 cup of coconut milk
  • 1 cup of ice

I nick-named this smoothie "sights of summer" because the red and yellow color from the fruits will remind you of a vibrant summer sunset. Simply add all ingredients into a blender and allow it all to incorporate. Since there are three different types of sweet fruit in this recipe, you won't need to add additional sweeteners such as sugar or honey. However, adding additional pineapple juice or even a splash of orange juice could be a pleasant addition to this summery sip!

The August Blues

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of blueberries
  • 1/2 cup of blueberry yogurt
  • 1/2 cup of coconut milk
  • 1 cup of ice
  • shaved chocolate (optional)

When August hits and you find yourself catching the summer blues, add some deliciousness to your days with this blue-inspired summer smoothie! Add all of the ingredients into the blender and allow them to mix while becoming a smooth liquid. Once you are done blending, shave some chocolate on top of your smoothie for an Insta-worthy shot of your blue drink. You get extra points if you shave dark chocolate into your smoothie which has proven health benefits beyond belief, but if you splurge with white or milk chocolate, that's perfectly fine as well.

Piña Colada Wannabe

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 cup pineapple
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup shaved coconut
  • 1/2 cup ice

If this drink doesn't scream summer, I'm not sure what will. The classic combination of pineapple and coconut come together to form a tasty treat that is also health-conscious. Blend all ingredients together and at the very end, add the shaved coconut for texture. Bonus points if you sip this drink out of a coconut!
