How To Wear Heels Without Wanting To Die
Heels. We love 'em just about as much as we hate them.
After working in a city last summer and walking just about everywhere, I learned a few very important things when it comes to choosing heels that are both fashionable and functional. Here are my top five tips when it comes to wearing heels (without wanting to die).
1. Platforms are your new best friend.
Platform shoes provide nice height and style but don't put too much pressure on any one part of the foot. Because, like in flat shoes, the shoe is all one height, the weight is evenly distributed.
2. Invest in nice heels.
Unfortunately, going for cheap shoes over expensive ones usually won't fare well for your feet. More often than not, pricier shoes pay far more care to the little details that keep your feet from getting too sore throughout the day. Be sure to read reviews online and do your research before making the plunge!
3. Consider shoe inserts.
Shoe inserts are great if you have pumps that can easily conceal the cushion. I've used Dr. Scholl's before and would 100% recommend. They make it really easy to wear heels for a long period of time without just wanting to sit down.
4. The thinner the heel, the more painful the shoe.
I've learned (the hard way...) that the thinner your heel is, the more painful the shoe is to wear. Luckily for all of us, chunky heels and wedges are in. There are a million and one cute styles that you can find on sites like ASOS, Free People, Nordstrom, or Urban Outfitters.
5. Be realistic.
My number one piece of advice would be to be realistic. If you know you're going to have to walk more than a mile, be honest with yourself and decide that perhaps heels aren't the best idea (although I have done this before...). If you're like me and believe that heels make the outfit, don't be afraid to put them in your bag for later! Your feet will thank you.
